How long does epoxy flooring last in Calgary?
With proper preparation and our full system, our floors are designed for up to 15+ years in residential and commercial settings. The key word is properly. In Calgary's freeze-thaw climate, coating failure almost always comes down to inadequate surface preparation. If the concrete isn't diamond-ground before application, the coating bonds adhesively rather than mechanically - and it will eventually peel.
What's the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic?
Epoxy is the adhesive base layer that bonds to concrete. Polyaspartic is the UV-stable performance topcoat that protects it. Epoxy builds thickness, fills pores, and creates the mechanical bond. Polyaspartic cures faster, resists UV yellowing, and handles temperature extremes better than epoxy alone. Our systems combine both: epoxy base for build and bond, polyaspartic topcoat for long-term durability.
Can epoxy floors handle Calgary's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes - when installed with proper surface preparation and moisture management. The biggest risk isn't the cold itself, it's moisture. Concrete absorbs water, water expands when frozen, and coatings that aren't properly bonded will lift. Our prep process removes the weak surface layer entirely, opening the pores for a true mechanical bond.
How long does installation take?
Most residential garages are completed within 48 hours. Light foot traffic is possible 24-48 hours after. Cars go back in after 72 hours (3 days). We give you a clear timeline before we start - and we never rush the cure to hand the floor back faster.
Can you install epoxy in winter?
Yes, with conditions. A heated garage is required - the slab needs to be above 10 degrees C for proper adhesion and cure. We use electric heaters only (propane produces moisture and CO2 that cause amine blush). We assess conditions before scheduling and will not install in environments that don't meet curing requirements.
Why does epoxy flooring fail so often?
Most epoxy floor failures are caused by inadequate concrete preparation, wrong product selection, or skipping the primer layer. Big-box store kits fail because they're acid-etched rather than ground, single-component, and applied over concrete that was never properly profiled. We use commercial-grade 100% solids product, diamond-ground prep, and never skip steps regardless of job size.
Is epoxy flooring slippery?
Flake and quartz systems provide natural slip resistance through their broadcast aggregate texture. Smooth metallic and solid colour systems can have anti-slip additive incorporated into the topcoat. We discuss traction requirements with every client before recommending a system.
How much does epoxy flooring cost in Calgary?
Pricing depends on system type, slab condition, and total square footage. Every project is different. Use our instant estimate tool for a starting range based on your space, or contact us for a free in-person assessment and detailed quote. All pricing includes diamond grinding, moisture seal, and full system - no hidden extras.
Can epoxy be installed over existing coatings?
It depends on what's there. If the existing coating is properly bonded epoxy in good condition, we can scuff-sand and apply a 3-layer system over it. If it's peeling, blistering, or a different chemistry (polyurea, paint, acrylic sealer), it needs to come off. We assess every slab and give you a straight answer on what's required.
How do I maintain an epoxy floor?
Regular sweeping and occasional mopping with a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid harsh solvents. Use floor protectors under heavy equipment. Road salt and de-icing chemicals can be wiped up with a damp mop - the polyaspartic topcoat is chemically resistant.
Do you work on commercial floors?
Yes. We install all four systems in commercial environments - auto shops, warehouses, retail, gyms, offices, and light industrial. Commercial projects may require phased installation and cure-schedule planning. Contact us to discuss your project.

What is diamond grinding and why does it matter?
Diamond grinding uses industrial machines fitted with diamond tooling to profile the concrete surface for coating adhesion. It removes the weak top layer, opens the pores, and creates a CSP 2-3 profile - the minimum required for a coating that bonds permanently. It is the only prep method we use. Acid etching does not achieve the same result.
Is epoxy flooring safe for pets and children?
Fully cured epoxy flooring is non-toxic, easy to clean, and safe for both pets and children. Flake and quartz systems provide natural slip resistance through their broadcast aggregate texture. We recommend waiting the full cure window before allowing foot traffic (24-48 hours) and vehicles (72 hours).
Do you offer any warranty?
Yes. Every floor we install comes with a workmanship warranty covering adhesion, peeling, and delamination. Because we control every step - prep, primer, base, topcoat - we stand behind the result. Specific warranty terms are provided with your quote and depend on the system and application.
What preparation is required from the homeowner?
Clear everything off the floor - vehicles, storage, shelving, anything sitting on the concrete. We handle the rest. If your garage has built-in shelving or heavy items, let us know ahead of time and we can plan around it. No other prep is needed on your end.
Do you service areas outside Calgary?
We serve Calgary and surrounding communities including SE, SW, and NW Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, and Chestermere. If you're within a reasonable distance of Calgary, contact us - we may be able to accommodate your project.
