WHAT'S ACTUALLY
COVERED. AND WHAT'S NOT.

Most coating warranties read like legal escape clauses dressed up as guarantees. Ours reads like what it is: a clear adhesion warranty, a specific term by system, and a named owner who picks up the phone.

The Industry Reality

EVERY LIFETIME WARRANTY
IS A LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY.

The word "limited" is doing all the work. Walk through any garage coating website and you'll see "Lifetime" splashed across the homepage. Read the fine print and you'll find the real terms: moisture excluded, labor covered for one year only, non-transferable, cosmetic damage excluded, tire marks excluded. Industry data suggests 73% of warranties don't cover the two most common failure modes, hot tire pickup and moisture damage.

Why we publish specifics

15 YEARS IS MORE HONEST THAN "LIFETIME"

A floor coating is not a diamond. It wears. Topcoats lose gloss. High-traffic areas show use. Calling that "lifetime" sets you up for disappointment around year eight. Fifteen years is realistic, defensible, and matches how these systems actually perform in Calgary's climate. We'd rather tell you the truth than dress up a legal document.

Why we tier by system

A METALLIC FLOOR IS NOT A FLAKE FLOOR

Different systems have different risk profiles. Full flake floors with a polyaspartic topcoat are the most durable. Metallics are visually stunning but can shift in appearance under UV. Solid colour holds up well indoors but shows wear faster outdoors. Instead of one blanket warranty that hides the differences, we publish specific terms for each system so you know what you're buying.

Coverage by System

WARRANTY TERMS,
SYSTEM BY SYSTEM.

These are the durations we stand behind for each of our five systems. All terms cover adhesion and workmanship failure on properly prepared concrete. Residential and commercial differ because commercial floors see dramatically more traffic, chemicals, and wear.

Metallic systems are rated for 10 years because UV exposure and cleaning chemistry can cause pigments to shift or amber over time. That is not a defect. It is the nature of metallic pigments. We disclose it upfront rather than hiding it in exclusions.

The Short List

WHAT THE WARRANTY
DOES AND DOES NOT COVER.

Here is the plain-English version. The detailed exclusions are broken out below by category so you can see exactly what falls inside and outside the coverage envelope.

What's Covered
  • +
Adhesion and delaminationThe coating stays bonded to properly prepared concrete for the full warranty term. If it lifts, peels, or detaches due to workmanship or material defect, we repair it.
  • +
Peeling, bubbling, or flakingAny coating failure attributable to installation or product, not caused by external damage or substrate issues.
  • +
Hot tire pickupOn polyaspartic-topped systems (Full Flake, Quartz, Solid Colour, Outdoor), we cover hot tire delamination. This is the single most common tire-related failure and most warranties exclude it. We don't.
  • +
Labor and materialsRepair labor and materials are both covered for the full warranty term on qualifying claims. No "labor expires at year one" language.
  • +
WorkmanshipAny failure caused by our installation work. If we made the mistake, we fix it.
What's Not Covered
  • ×
Moisture-related failuresPolyaspartic and epoxy coatings cannot mitigate ongoing moisture transmission through concrete. Moisture failures are the leading cause of coating problems and fall outside our warranty coverage.
  • ×
Substrate movementConcrete cracks, heaves, settles, and shifts. When the slab moves, a surface coating moves with it. This is a concrete issue, not a coating issue.
  • ×
Chemical damageBattery acid, brake fluid, paint strippers, solvents, and undiluted cleaners can damage any coating system. Spills should be cleaned promptly.
  • ×
Impact and abrasionDropped tools, scraping from plows or shovels, dragging heavy objects without protection. These cause surface damage that any coating will show.
  • ×
Cosmetic changes over timeGloss reduction from traffic, minor scratches, colour variation in repairs, metallic pigment shifts under UV. The coating is still performing. Appearance may evolve. Our year-eight refresh program addresses this.
  • ×
Third-party modificationsAnything applied over our coating by another party. Any patch, repair, or coating work done by someone else voids the warranty on that area.
Exclusions, In Detail

FACTORS OUTSIDE
OUR CRAFTSMANSHIP AND CONTROL.

Every coating warranty in the industry excludes the same five categories. The difference is whether the installer tells you upfront or hides it in fine print. Here's every exclusion, grouped and explained.

Group 01

SUBSTRATE

Concrete slab cracking, heaving, settling, aggregate pop-outs, and joint movement are concrete behaviours, not coating failures. Hydrostatic pressure, vapour transmission above 3 lbs per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours, and moisture intrusion from below are excluded. These are properties of the slab and site conditions, not the coating.

Group 02

CHEMICAL

Battery acid, brake fluid, paint strippers, undiluted cleaners, fuel spills left to sit, and industrial solvents will damage any resin system. Clean spills promptly and use pH-neutral cleaners. Damage from chemical exposure, ice melt, and road salt accumulation is excluded.

Group 03

USE & IMPACT

Dropped tools, sharp-edged objects, improperly positioned jack stands, dragging heavy objects without floor protection, and vehicle tires spinning in place will cause visible damage. Plow scraping, snow shovel gouges, and ice chipping also fall here. Normal use is covered. Abuse is not.

Group 04

COSMETIC & TIME

Gloss reduction in high-traffic pathways, minor surface scratches from daily use, colour variation between original installation and future repairs, and metallic pigment shift under UV exposure are appearance changes, not performance failures. The coating is still bonded and functional.

Group 05

MODIFICATIONS

Any coating, sealer, paint, or surface treatment applied over our installation by another contractor or homeowner voids warranty coverage on that area. Please contact us first if you want to refresh, repair, or modify the floor. We would rather help than see warranty work fall outside coverage.

Group 06

ACCEPTANCE & CURE

Use before specified cure times can cause permanent damage to the topcoat. First-week heat application, parking on fresh coating, or placing rubber mats before full cure can create imprints and softening that are excluded.

Keeping the Warranty Active

HOW TO PROTECT
YOUR COVERAGE.

The warranty assumes normal residential or commercial use and reasonable maintenance. None of this is complicated or expensive. It is the same care any high-end surface needs to perform at its best. Follow these and your coverage stays active.

The honest version: No contractor checks your cleaning supplies. We are not asking you to buy special products from us. These are the realistic habits that keep any polyaspartic or epoxy floor looking and performing its best. If you do something outside this list and we see it caused the failure, that specific issue falls outside coverage. The rest of the warranty remains active.

01

CLEANING

  • Sweep or dust mop weekly to remove grit and debris
  • Damp mop with warm water and pH-neutral cleaner as needed
  • Avoid abrasive scrub pads, steel wool, or aggressive scouring
  • Avoid undiluted degreasers, bleach, or solvent-based cleaners
  • Clean up spills (oil, fuel, chemicals) within 24 hours
02

VEHICLE CARE

  • Let tires cool before parking on fresh coating (first 30 days)
  • Use furniture pads or plywood under jack stands and creepers
  • Avoid spinning tires on the coated surface
  • Wipe brake fluid, battery acid, or coolant spills immediately
  • Park vehicles inside vs. over drip pans when possible
03

SEASONAL CARE

  • Rinse road salt and calcium off after winter melt periods
  • Shovel snow with plastic-edged shovels, not metal scrapers
  • Avoid dragging metal snow blowers across the surface
  • Keep ice melt products away from the coating if possible
  • Mop winter grit weekly during December through March
04

STORAGE & USE

  • Use pads or rubber feet under heavy equipment and tool chests
  • Avoid dragging sharp-edged items across the floor
  • Use mats under welding, grinding, or workshop areas
  • Do not apply tape, stickers, or adhesive to the coating long-term
  • Contact us before any refresh, repair, or modification
The Fine Print, Without the Fine Print

SPECIFIC CAVEATS WORTH KNOWING.

  • No annual inspections required. We do not require paid yearly visits to maintain coverage. Some warranties do. Ours does not.
  • No proprietary cleaners required. Any pH-neutral floor cleaner works. We do not sell branded cleaners as a warranty condition.
  • Rubber mat warning. Certain rubber mats, especially under wet conditions, can soften the topcoat or leave permanent imprints. Use breathable mats only.
  • Pressure washer caution. Indoor pressure washing is fine. Keep the nozzle at least 12 inches from the surface. Direct high-pressure spray can cut into any resin coating.
  • Repair first, replace never. If you see a chip, scratch, or small damage, contact us for repair guidance before trying to patch it yourself.
  • Photos help claims. If something goes wrong, take photos at multiple angles and times of day. This speeds up the inspection and repair process.
  • Original invoice matters. Keep your installation invoice and warranty certificate. Both prove ownership and installation date for any claim.
  • Weather-dependent repair timing. Polyaspartic repairs require substrate temperatures above -1°C. Winter repairs may schedule to spring.
The Other Terms

THREE THINGS MOST
WARRANTIES BURY. WE PUT THEM UP FRONT.

Duration and coverage get all the marketing attention. But transferability, prorating, and remedy type are where the real value of a warranty lives or dies. Here is where we stand on each.

01

TRANSFERABLE FOR ONE YEAR

The warranty transfers to a new owner if you sell your home within 12 months of installation. After that, the warranty is tied to the original owner. This matches the industry standard for transferable boutique warranties and protects us against coverage extending across multiple unknown owners.

02

NON-PRORATED

A qualifying claim in year 14 gets the same coverage as a claim in year two. We do not reduce our obligation over time or offer declining reimbursement. If the coating fails within the warranty term, we repair it. Full stop.

03

REPAIR, NOT REPLACEMENT

The remedy for a qualifying claim is repair of the affected area. Full floor replacement is not standard. Repair work is colour-matched as closely as possible, but some visible variation between the original installation and the repair may be present. This is normal and industry-standard.

The Refresh Program

AT YEAR EIGHT,
WE COME BACK.

No coating topcoat lasts forever. Polyaspartic holds up beautifully for a decade of hard use, then shows its age. The base system underneath is still perfectly bonded. The topcoat is where daily wear lives. Competitors with lifetime warranties hope you never think about this. We would rather be upfront: at year eight to ten, a single fresh topcoat extends your floor another full cycle.

01

WHY TOPCOATS WEAR

The topcoat is the sacrificial layer. It takes all the traffic, all the chemicals, all the UV, all the tire heat. That is its job. Meanwhile the flake, quartz, or metallic base stays protected underneath. When the topcoat thins, the base is still intact. It just needs a new outer layer.

02

WHAT THE RECOAT INVOLVES

Light mechanical abrasion to prep the existing topcoat for bonding. A full cleaning. One fresh coat of polyaspartic. No removing the base system, no regrinding the concrete, no starting over. A fraction of the cost of a full new floor install.

03

WHEN TO SCHEDULE IT

We recommend it at year eight to ten, before the topcoat starts to thin through. We reach out. You decide. No obligation, no pressure, no maintenance requirement buried in your warranty. Most clients book it the same week we get in touch because the math is obvious.

Making a Claim

WHAT TO DO IF
SOMETHING GOES WRONG.

If you notice an issue, contact us first. Do not patch, coat over, or let another contractor touch the floor. Modifications can void coverage on the affected area. Our claim process is short and direct.

01

CONTACT US

Email info@epoxyfloorscanada.ca or call (403) 383-8213 with a description of the issue, photos of the affected area, and the approximate installation date. We respond within two business days.

02

ON-SITE INSPECTION

Ribal will come to the site and inspect personally. No inspection fee. No trip charge. We look at the failure, the substrate condition, and any potential contributing factors to determine whether it falls under warranty coverage.

03

DETERMINATION

We tell you honestly whether the issue is covered. If it is workmanship or material failure, we schedule the repair at no cost. If it falls into an exclusion category, we explain why and offer repair options if you want the fix. No games.

04

REPAIR

Warranty-covered repairs are scheduled as soon as weather and cure conditions allow. Most spot repairs are completed in a single visit. We clean up the affected area, re-prep as needed, and apply the repair system to restore coating performance.

A Note From the Owner

"If there is a problem with a floor I installed, I want to know. This warranty exists because I stand behind my work, not because it sounded good on the website."
