GRIND AND SEAL POLYASPARTIC IN CALGARY.

A grind and seal is a single-coat or double-coat aliphatic polyaspartic floor applied to diamond-ground concrete. Right for sound Calgary slabs that need UV stability and cold-climate performance. On moisture-heavy slabs, an MVB primer goes under the polyaspartic to extend the system to concrete that would not otherwise qualify.

WHY GRIND AND SEAL

Why Grind and Seal

Engineered. Not Rushed.

Aliphatic UV Stability

HDI and IPDI chemistry. No benzene rings, no yellowing, no chalking. Rated SSPC Level 3A at 2,000 hours of UV testing.

Single or Double Coat

One coat for qualifying slabs. Two coats when Flake, metallic, or added film build is the right call. We match the system to your concrete.

Cold-Climate Install

Reliable application down to minus 29 Celsius substrate temperature. No seasonal shutdown from October through April.

Flexible Under Load

Elongation at break 50 to 300 percent, roughly 10 to 60 times epoxy. Bridges hairline cracks and handles Calgary freeze-thaw cycles.

Slab-Matched Engineering

Moisture readings, hardness, porosity, contamination. We test before we recommend. If your slab does not qualify, we say so.

Chemical Resistance

Resists automotive fluids, solvents, and household chemicals. Shore D hardness 75 to 80 with full-film aliphatic protection.

Not a shortcut. A right-sized system.

A grind and seal is a legitimate, high-performance floor when matched to the right slab. Epoxy Floors Canada is an XPS Certified Installer. We diamond-grind the concrete to a CSP 2-3 profile, vacuum and degrease, then apply aliphatic polyaspartic directly to bare concrete. No filler layers your slab does not need, no coats padding the invoice. Just the right system for concrete that qualifies, engineered for up to 15 years of performance when the slab is sound.

The qualifier is slab condition. Moisture readings, porosity, hardness, contamination, and concrete age all matter. Our quote starts with a slab assessment. If the concrete qualifies as-is, grind and seal is the engineered answer. On moisture-heavy slabs, an MVB primer goes down first to lock the moisture under the system. For soft, contaminated, or compromised concrete, a full epoxy and polyaspartic build is the right call. The assessment determines the build.

The chemistry is not a spectrum.

Polyaspartic is aliphatic polyurea. The isocyanates we use (HDI and IPDI) contain no benzene rings in their molecular backbone. UV photons cannot break bonds that are not there. Epoxy ambers and yellows within months of sun exposure at the molecular level. Polyaspartic is immune at the molecular level. In a full multi-coat system, the polyaspartic topcoat protects an epoxy base that will still amber underneath. In a grind and seal, the entire film is aliphatic from substrate to surface.

When a full system is the only right answer.

A grind and seal on its own is not a moisture-mitigating system. On Calgary slabs with elevated moisture readings, we add an MVB (moisture vapor barrier) primer under the polyaspartic. This extends grind and seal to concrete that would otherwise fail, and protects the coating from hydrostatic pressure through the slab. For soft or powdery concrete, oil-saturated slabs, old coatings that release, or surface correction needs, we install the complete system: a full epoxy base, decorative media if desired, and polyaspartic topcoats. We test every slab, show you the results, and recommend the build that actually works for your concrete.

HOW IT'S DONE

the install process.

STEP 01

Slab Assessment

Slab condition check: hardness, porosity, contamination, and moisture readings. If the concrete does not qualify for grind and seal, we say so before we quote. No surprises on install day.

STEP 02

Diamond Grind

Werkmaster Raptor XT planetary grinder profiles the concrete to CSP 2-3. Bartell HD1 HEPA dust extraction keeps the space clean from first cut to final pass.

STEP 03

Clean and Degrease

Vacuum, then acetone or xylene wipe. Zero residual dust. Substrate prepared to bond at full strength.

STEP 04

Polyaspartic Coat

Mixed to spec, ribboned and back-rolled for even film build. Single coat for qualifying slabs, double coat for Flake or metallic.

Colour Options

CHOOSE YOUR FINISH.

Solid colour or clear seal work as a single coat on qualifying slabs. Flake and metallic broadcasts require a double-coat build with a clear lock-in topcoat.
